Synopsis: It's spring 1961 and the First Line are helping the Yankee Clipper train. At that moment associate member Kid Justice enters saying the President wants to send a man to the moon. The Yankee Clipper remembers everything that Cassandra told him in the past and takes Kid Justice to one side for a chat.

Meanwhile in San Francisco the Hipster is battling some common thugs, he is joined in the fight by Pixie who uses her pixie-dust on the thugs. One of the thugs escapes and goes to warn "the master". Pixie introduces herself to the Hipster and says she wants to be his partner - he refuses and she flies away in disgust.

The thugs returns to the base of his "master" who turns out to be the Yellow Claw. He explains what has happened, the Yellow Claw says that he's heard rumours of the Hipster, however his associate Von Voltzmann is not so believing and attacks the thug.

The Yellow Claw takes Von Voltzmann to one side and they discuss the proliferation of "super-humans", Von Voltzmann complains about the First Line inspiring others as did the the Invaders before they died. The Yellow Claw reveals that not all of the Invaders are dead and shows Von Voltzmann the body of the Sub-Mariner.

The Yellow Claw reveals that the Sub-Mariner was found amnesiac and that a being of such power could be useful to his cause. At that moment the Sub-Mariner wakes up and the Yellow Claw's brainwashing is made apparent.

Meanwhile in Atlantis, Namora reports back to Prince Byrrah about the missing Namor. Byrrah says that is has been six years since he disappeared and that they must do whatever it takes to defend the realm. Warlord Krang is revealed to have employed Vyrra (the banished one) and is having a warrior grown. Vyrra names the warrior Mako.

Back in San Francisco the Hipster is on the trail of the thug that escaped and is unaware that he is being followed by the Black Fox. In the Claw's hideout Dr. Cassandra Locke appears from the events in Issue 7 (and FF (Vol I) #99), she learns that the Sub-Mariner is alive and in the service of the Yellow Claw. The Yellow Claw tricks the Sub-Mariner to don his armour, this amuses Von Voltzmann.

The First Line have arrived in San Francisco after being contacted by the Black Fox, they enter the lair of the Yellow Claw and are attacked by the Claw's minions. Whilst they are fighting they are joined by the Hipster. Nightingale encounters the Sub-Mariner and tries to heal him, he leaves before she finishes after learning he's been used.

Dr. Cassandra Locke watches the Yellow Claw and Von Voltzmann, she is concerned about the Claw as the records in the future place the Claw as being born in the 19th Century. The Yellow Claw is showing Von Voltzmann a pocket bomb that he will use to blow-up the First Line whilst they escape, before anything can happen they are attacked by the Sub-Mariner. The Black Fox appears and attacks the Yellow Claw - he announces that the bomb has been primed.

Cassandra overhears this and transports herself into the future exactly as the bomb goes off. The First Line, the Hipster and the Claws minions are protected from the blast by a force-field being generated by his belt. The Black Fox reveals he's safe and explains how he outran the blast. He then goes on to introduce Fritz Von Voltzmann who is actuality was Karl Von Horstbaden the Nazi war criminal.

Liberty Girl invites the Hipster to join the First Line, but he refuses and leaves. The Yankee Clipper asks the Black Fox what's on his mind, the Black Fox replies he's sure he was the Sub-Mariner just before the explosion. The Yankee Clipper realises that this was the explosion Cassandra told him about and that she was on her way into the past to meet him...
